Benzene
as a Preservative
Although it is
used in the manufacturing of many other
products, benzene is commonly used as
a preservative, most notably in soft drinks,
but also in many supplements. Benzene
is a hydrocarbon comprised of sodium
benzoate and ascorbic acid (Vitamin
C).
Benzene has been under
fire recently because it is said to be
a carcinogen, but many soft drink manufacturers
continue to use it in their products.
This preservative is not banned by the
FDA, but many companies choose not to
use it because of perceived consumer concerns.
At Vitarich Laboratories,
we offer our
pasteurization services as a way to
cut down or even eliminate the need for
preservatives such as benzene. Not only
does this alleviate health concerns your
consumers may have, but providing a more
natural product opens your company to
a wider consumer base.
