Food and Vitamin Supplement Manufacturer or Wholesaler: What’s the Difference?

Although you may hear the words used interchangeably, a food and vitamin supplement manufacturer can be quite different from a wholesaler. While the terms are not mutually exclusive, and a food and vitamin supplement manufacturer may also be a wholesaler, the two are usually separate and complement one another’s services.

A food and vitamin supplement manufacturer is the company that actually makes the products. They take the raw materials and ingredients and create the actual tablets or liquids that will eventually be sold in stores. However, they don’t always make everything involved in the process, such as capsules or packaging, and they may have relationships with other companies for these aspects. Some food and vitamin supplement manufacturers also house R&D teams to create new, innovative formulas for products. A food and vitamin supplement manufacturer can package their products in very large containers or single-serving sizes, depending on the needs of the customer. However, they usually require a minimum order size, which may be out-of-range for smaller or start-up companies, and the price per unit usually goes up with smaller batches.

On the other side is the food and vitamin supplement wholesaler. Although they don’t manufacture the products, a supplement or vitamin wholesaler orders large lots of product from a manufacturer and resells them in smaller batches. For example, a wholesaler of supplement and vitamin products might order 1000 bottles of Vitamin C, and then sell them to stores in batches of 50. Also, a food and vitamin supplement wholesaler might order large tubs of product, repackage them in smaller bottles, and then resell them to stores. By ordering large batches, a wholesaler can usually get a better price per item than individual stores or small companies would, and they don’t have to worry about minimum orders. This system allows the stores to afford quality products without having to deal with minimums.

If you’re looking for a food and vitamin supplement manufacturer to help you become a wholesaler, then Vitarich Laboratories can help you. With years of experience behind us, we can manufacture even the largest batch sizes to bring you the high-quality products you need quickly, efficiently, and affordably.
